Pride Journey Outdoors: Marquette, Michigan

June 6, 2020

Located in the Upper Peninsula, Marquette has gained national acclaim as a premier outdoor and adventure destination in the Midwest. Traveling to Marquette may be a bit of a journey, but once you arrive, it is an outdoor adventurers paradise.

Take to the Trails

Visitors will find top-rated trails with over 150 miles of wonderful options for exploring the Upper Peninsula’s incredible landscape. There are also excellent paved paths for cycling. The Noquemanon Trail Network (NTN) was built with all rider styles and skills in mind including flow, technical, jump, freeride, downhill, dual slalom and trails for kids/beginners. For trails on foot, Sugarloaf Mountain is repeatedly on the most-visited list. This half-mile hike is a mere 15 to 30 minutes to the top. For another picturesque view, head to Presque Isle Park, a 2-mile stretch that is easily one of the best and quickest routes worth taking in.

Go Chasing Waterfalls

For adventure seekers, a trip to Marquette is not complete without waterfalls. Marquette County is home to 77 waterfalls, with many dropping more than 20 feet. A few of the most beautiful and popular include Morgan Falls, Dead River Falls and Yellow Dog Falls.

Head to the Shore

Lake Superior has shaped the Marquette maritime identity, providing the perfect place to kayak around the Black Rocks of Presque Isle, fish on the Lower Harbor or paddleboard in Marquette Bay. On a hot summer day, the Black Rocks are the perfect spot for a quick cool off. Located at Presque Isle Park, these ancient rock formations are only about 10-15 feet high and jumping off will sure give an adrenaline rush. When it comes to beaches, visit the shores of McCarty’s Cove or explore the 83 miles of Lake Superior coverage. Most are unaware but you can also surf anywhere on Lake Superior where there are great waves and big wind. For an extra bit of fun, visit one of Marquette’s many lighthouses lining the shoreline!
