Anchorage

Anchorage is stealing the spotlight in 2025 with a dynamic mix of new attractions, expanded air access, and a national TV feature that promises to showcase the city’s unique blend of urban adventure and natural wonder. From boutique hotel openings and immersive cultural exhibits to a growing food scene and all-new guided tours, Alaska’s largest city is setting the stage for its most exciting summer yet.

National Attention and Solstice Celebration

On June 20, Anchorage will be featured on NBC’s “3rd Hour of TODAY” during a special Summer Solstice broadcast, sponsored by Visit Anchorage. The segment will shine a national spotlight on the city’s stunning landscapes, thriving cultural community, and the magic of its endless summer daylight. Anchorage was also recently named one of Allianz Partners’ top summer destinations for American travelers. “There’s never been a better time to visit,” said Julie Saupe, president and CEO of Visit Anchorage. “Anchorage is the one-stop destination for the best of Alaska.”

Easier Than Ever to Reach

Getting to Anchorage has never been simpler thanks to expanded air service from major cities across North America.

  • Alaska Airlines will begin seasonal nonstop flights from Sacramento and Detroit on June 14.

  • United Airlines launched nonstop service from Washington, D.C. (Dulles) on May 23.

  • Delta Air Lines resumes its Detroit route on June 7.

  • WestJet adds twice-weekly service from Calgary between June 29 and September 7.

These additions give travelers more options—and fewer layovers—when heading north for a summer escape.

A New Era of Anchorage Hospitality

Anchorage’s hotel scene is buzzing with new openings and renovations designed to elevate the guest experience:

  • The Wildbirch Hotel opens June 12 with 252 camp-inspired rooms, Alaska-themed dining, local art, and sweeping views of Cook Inlet.

  • Hilton Anchorage unveils the first phase of a major renovation, complete with a refreshed lobby, regional artwork, and a new cultural partnership with the Alaska Native Heritage Center.

  • Salted Roots Basecamp expands with a new downtown property, while BlueWater BaseCamp introduces a dedicated space for group gatherings.

  • Hotel Captain Cook continues its transformation with a fully renovated Tower 2 debuting in early June.

Celebrating Alaska Native Cultures

Anchorage, located on the ancestral lands of the Dena’ina Athabascan people, is deepening its commitment to sharing Indigenous heritage with visitors.

  • The Alaska Native Heritage Center debuts three new exhibits, including its first permanent Dena’ina-focused display and a rare ground squirrel parka.

  • A $3.5 million Mellon Foundation grant will fund Indigenous-led monuments and a healing garden.

  • The Dena’ina Civic and Convention Center adds new cultural displays downtown.

  • The Indigenous Place Names Project continues to grow, with a new marker for Qin Chegi at Glen Alps set to be unveiled on June 25.

  • Portage Glacier Cruises enters a new chapter under the leadership of Alaska Native–owned Na-Dena’.

“These additions not only deepen our connection, but also offer visitors a more authentic and enriching way to experience Anchorage,” Saupe added.

Tours, Trails, and Outdoor Adventures

Anchorage’s outdoor offerings expand with new ways to experience Alaska’s wild beauty:

  • Greatland Adventures launches a full-day wildlife tour from Anchorage to Portage Valley, featuring tram rides, glacier cruises, and hikes.

  • Alaska Tour & Travel introduces a new motorcoach route linking Seward and Whittier—perfect for cruise travelers.

  • Alaska Photo Treks adds two new cruise-transfer photo tours: Spring Aurora Quest and Beyond Golden Hour.

At the Anchorage Museum, visitors can explore Alaska’s past and present through a series of new exhibits. The museum recently acquired Alaska’s Golden Spike, which commemorates the completion of the Alaska Railroad, and opened a new Water Zone in its Discovery Center—an interactive space where young explorers learn about tides, glaciers, and waves through technology and hands-on displays.

Anchorage’s Culinary Scene Continues to Grow

Anchorage’s food landscape is heating up with innovative new eateries and beloved local favorites expanding:

  • Alaska Chopped & Chowdered is gaining buzz for its rich clam chowder and savory lobster rolls.

  • Eye Tooth Tavern, the third restaurant from the team behind Moose’s Tooth and Bear Tooth, brings a casual vibe and bold flavors.

  • Serranos Mexican Grill opens a new downtown location.

  • Sakana Poke & Soiree, a fast-casual poke spot, debuts in midtown.

Whether you’re planning an Alaskan cruise, seeking out cultural depth, or chasing the midnight sun, Anchorage offers a refreshing blend of wilderness, heritage, and hospitality in 2025. For more information or to start planning your summer adventure, visit www.anchorage.net.
