Celebrate Pride in Northern England

Newcastle, Gateshead and the wider North East of England are super inclusive and welcoming destinations. No matter what kind of visit you’re after, you’ll have a great time thanks to its bustling queer scene! Whether you fancy a pint at a local or a late-night boogie, the Pink Triangle will have you covered with venues including Rusty’s and Powerhouse keeping you dancing through the night.

Newcastle has nurtured an incredible drag scene, with queens like Miss Rory and Gladys Duffy entertaining locals and those like Michael Marouli, Ginger Johnson and Tomara Thomas achieving international fame through RuPaul’s Drag Race. Curious Arts, a local arts and youth charity championing LGBTQ+ communities and creatives across the North East has a range of events such as Curious Histories that you can attend to be a part of the local queer community.

Northern Pride hosts Newcastle Pride every summer, with 2024’s event spanning across the whole city for the first time through the theme ‘Unapologetically Visible’ and 2025’s Pride set to return from 19-20 July. Northern Pride is the UK’s largest free Pride festival, making it an accessible event as well as inclusive. Curious Arts and Northern Pride have also created a training course entitled ‘Proud Allies’ in which attendees are taught about queer history and experiences and how best to make their business inclusive. This training has currently been completed by over 300+ businesses across North East England.

Newcastle is also proud to be hosting the #SaferToBeMe summit in October, the only global LGBTQ+ summit in the UK. All these things encompass the inclusivity and welcoming nature of Newcastle and the region as a whole, making it a great place to visit as an LGBTQ+ person.
