Celebrate the Holidays In Rhode Island

Retreat to The Ocean State this December for the return of its annual holiday festivities, affordable hotel rates and cozy pop-up culinary experiences.

Visit the Classic Coast with festivities in Newport like the Newport Illuminated Boat Parade, the 51st Annual Tree Lighting at Bowen’s Wharf, a brand new European Christmas Market and more. The Newport Mansions are a must-visit for the holidays where visitors can admire the lit up grounds and lavish decorations throughout The Marble House, Elms, and The Breakers including the grand 15-foot tall Poinsettia Tree in the great hall of The Breakers. Starting November 20, “Sparkling Lights at The Breakers: An Outdoor Magical Wonderland,” will also return for its second year as a festive outdoor way to experience the Mansions all lit up.

Join Roger Williams Park Zoo for their Holiday Lights Spectacular, this year presented in an all-new walkthrough format featuring festive, larger-than-life dazzling displays with 1.5 million illuminated lights. Running on select dates from November 26 to January 2, visitors will enjoy holiday music, treats, and festive cheer; rain or shine. Please see here for tickets.

The magic returns this holiday season when visitors embark on The Polar Express Train Ride, Blackstone Valley for a 90-minute train ride to the “North Pole.” Filled with singing, games, a reading of the namesake classic children’s story, and a visit from Santa, this journey and its pre-trip show and photo opportunities will fill participants with the holiday spirit. And don’t worry, The Conductor will be there to punch each golden ticket to board! Guests may take part on weekends from November 19 to December 19.

Returning Friday, December 3, Ocean House has reimagined its internationally recognized Fondue Village, this time drawing inspiration from the French après-ski experience for its magical new Gondola Village. The whimsical, hygge-fulfilling outdoor village features three fire pits, three well-appointed gondolas, and touches of soft white lit trees, thoughtfully designed to transport guests to a memorable experience. In true après-ski fashion, guests will experience a taste of France with two new offerings.

Where to Stay: Aloft Providence Downtown, opens this November, and is perfect for those with Marriott Bonvoy loyalty points. Situated in the Innovation and Design District on the Providence River, within walking distance to Brown University and Johnson & Wales University.
