Fall is incredible in Provincetown when the laid-back and welcoming LGBTQ+ haven enjoys a veritable Second Summer filled with events like Trans Week and Women’s Week, theatrical events showcasing the works of Tennessee Williams and Eugene O’Neill, and the tasty Provincetown Food & Wine Festival. As one of the last towns in the nation with a Town Crier, Provincetown is hosting the American Guild of Town Criers National Competition. From Spooky Bear Halloween to the Lighting of the Pilgrim Monument, the town’s hotels, guesthouses, restaurants, boutiques, and art galleries are open for the balmy autumn beach season that offers Cape Cod’s classic sunny days and blue skies. Here’s the busy roster for Fall 2024.
SEPTEMBER
Provincetown Tennessee Williams Theater Festival, September 26-29
The 19th season of The Provincetown Tennessee Williams Theater Festival offers “Memory Plays,” fables, yarns, and revelations by Tennessee Williams. The festival celebrates the playwright’s connection to the Cape by celebrating his avant-garde spirit and cultural contributions to the artistic community through a series of inspiring performances each year.
Provincetown Book Festival, September 20-22
The 2024 Provincetown Book Festival is a weekend of literary events for readers, writers, and book lovers at the historic Provincetown Library.
OCTOBER
Mates Leather Weekend XXVII, October 3-7
Mates Leather Weekend brings together people looking to socialize and party with like-minded, leather-wearing peers.
O’Neill Festival of New Works, October 5-14
The O’Neill Festival of New Works will present readings and workshops of original plays by Provincetown and nationally known playwrights anchored by one O’Neill workshop. Six new scripts will be presented.
Town Crier Competition, October 7
Provincetown is one of four towns in Massachusetts that still has a town crier. On October 7, Provincetown’s Town Crier, Daniel Gomez Llata, who dresses in Pilgrim garb, will host the American Guild of Town Criers National Competition.
Ptown Soccer Classic XXVII, October 11-13
The Provincetown Soccer Classic is a social and welcoming soccer tournament for all skill levels. Organized by the Boston Strikers Soccer Club, which was established in 1987 for LGBTQ+ soccer players, the tournament is now in its 27th year and events include the Welcome Party, Wigs & Heels Tea Dance, a full day of soccer, and a Dinner Banquet.
Women’s Week, Oct 14- 20
Women’s Week is celebrating its 40th year and has grown into a festival with over 300 events that attract some of the most talented performers in the LGBTQ scene from across the world and from the local community. Whether it’s seeing the best performers and comics in LBGT culture today or just walking down Commercial Street holding hands, no festival celebrates women like Women’s Week.
Trans Week - The Original Fantasia Fair, October 20 – 27. This year marks the 50th anniversary of Trans Week, which blends a learning experience with a social gathering and reunion. Trans Week is a complete immersion experience, so attendees can and usually do spend an entire week 24/7 presenting their gender as they identify.
NOVEMBER
Spooky Bear Halloween Weekend, October 31- November 3
It will be a frightfully furry weekend in Ptown with Spooky Bear Halloween Weekend, with a monstrous medley of parties, dances, a haunted house, and a costume ball.
Provincetown Food & Wine Festival, November 7- 10
The fourth annual Provincetown Wine & Food Festival will include a Wine Tasting, a Grand Tasting, a Pie Competition, and Tea Dance every day.
Lighting of the Pilgrim Monument, November 27
The annual Lighting of the Pilgrim Monument commemorates the time the Pilgrims who arrived on the Mayflower spent in Provincetown and the Outer Cape before sailing onto what is now Plymouth. The Mayflower Compact, one of the first written forms of our modern-day representative form of government, was signed in Provincetown Harbor. It's a free event which kicks off the Thanksgiving Weekend.
New England Leather Weekend, November 22-24
The annual pageant to name the winner of New England Leather 2024 includes a Victory Celebration and a weekend to socialize.
