Just outside Washington, D.C., Loudoun County, Virginia, transforms into a magical holiday destination where rolling vineyards, historic villages and the breathtaking Blue Ridge Mountains provide the perfect backdrop for seasonal celebrations. Known for its picturesque countryside, award-winning wineries and charming small towns, Loudoun offers LGBTQ+ travelers an enchanting alternative to the hustle and bustle of big-city holiday festivities. From thousands of sparkling lights illuminating hillside vineyards and festive woodland trails to traditional Christmas parades, cozy fireside gatherings and live holiday concerts, the region captures the warmth and nostalgia of the season. Whether you're planning a romantic wine-country escape, a festive weekend with friends or a holiday getaway with your chosen family, Loudoun County delivers an unforgettable blend of small-town charm, scenic beauty and holiday cheer.

From November 27 until early into the New Year family-owned Bluemont Vineyard stages the annual Lighting of the Vines: more than 15,000 twinkling lights strung through 10,000 grape vines on the slopes of the Blue Ridge, a golden glow visible for miles around.

At the same time, Dirt Farm Brewing next door hosts its inaugural Christmas Trail at Dirt Farm: an illuminated woodland walk, with festive displays, photo ops and Christmas magic, plus fireside s’mores and beers back at the brewery.

The first weekend of December sees the wonderful Christmas in Middleburg tradition in the picturesque horse and hunt country town. Celebrations start Friday, December 4 with the Oh Holy Night! Tree Lighting Ceremony and carol singing while Saturday sees two street parades: the Middleburg Hunt & Hounds Review at 11 a.m. and the Christmas Parade at 2 p.m.

Downtown Leesburg turns into a glittering winter wonderland with a giant Christmas Tree glowing on the Town Green and a Saturday evening parade the second weekend of December. The tree is lit a week earlier.

In Leesburg, Dodona Manor’s Marshall Plan Tree Walk kicks off Saturday, December 5 with an outdoor tree lighting ceremony followed by an immersive tree walk. Bundle up with hot chocolate and s’mores before sunset and then enjoy walking by 17 beautifully decorated trees on the grounds representing the European nations that benefitted from the Marshall Plan in the aftermath of World War Two.

For music fans, the retro Tally Ho Theater in downtown Leesburg hosts the annual Jingle Jam concert over the weekend of December 11-13 featuring a dozen local bands and artists. Proceeds from ticket sales go to Loudoun charities.
