How to Look Good When Traveling

Most people only focus on their itinerary when planning a trip, and totally neglect their wardrobe and hygiene needs. Just because you’re on vacation, it doesn’t mean you can look like a slob all the time. You shouldn’t care about what your fellow travelers think, but you will be sorry when you come home, look at your photos and find yourself embarrassed to post anything due to your subpar look. Luckily, you can always look fabulous when traveling with these little tips:

Pack light yet smart

The items you pack for your trip will greatly affect your mood while traveling and the way you feel after you revisit your photographs. Make sure to be strategic when packing: focus on things that make up comfy and versatile outfits. For instance, all your tops should match all your bottoms; all your bottoms should go with your shoes, jackets and accessories—you get the gist. Check out your closet and pack a few pieces that look elegant for city strolls yet are easy to throw on after a busy day of exploration.

Focus on comfy yet elegant footwear

Footwear is probably the most important item for traveling. After all, you’ll spend a lot of time on your feet, and you want to keep them safe and sore-free. You can never go wrong with plain white sneakers—they go well with jeans and a tee but also with chinos and polos/maxi dress and blouse. And they are suitable for all destinations. If you’re hitting a city destination like Sydney, Australia, make sure to also pack something elegant for those chic dinners. Luckily, it’s easy to find heels in Australia for those wild nights out and crazy drag shows, so you will be able to enjoy a pair even if you didn’t pack them from home. They might also come as a nice souvenir you can take with you from your trip Down Under!

Invest in good nails

Painted nails always look great on Instagram photos, especially if you love to take pictures of your meals and coffee hauls while traveling. You probably don’t have time for daily touch-ups of your nails when you’re on the road, so make sure to invest in durable nail polish that lasts for weeks. And since you won’t be doing any hard physical tasks or cleaning, expect your nails to look flawless all through your vacation.

Be smart about your hair

Make sure to do your research of the place you’re visiting and adapt your hairstyles to the weather. When you’re in humid destinations like Southeast Asia or Central America, be proactive and choose easy-to-maintain hairstyles that involve slicking your hair back. And stock up on hairspray, gel, bobby pins and hair ties to keep everything slick. In cooler climates with less humidity, you can really whip out your good hairdos. If you don’t adapt your hairstyle to your destination, you will always look tired and messy in photos.

Don’t neglect makeup

If you wear makeup, you know that you only have time to put it on in the morning when we’re traveling, and you can maybe spare a touch-up during the day. So, using durable makeup is crucial to looking fresh and put together. Make sure to use a primer, that’s a must, and try to keep your look simple and cute. Setting sprays can also come in handy since they can really keep your makeup in place all day long.

Are you worried that backpackers and other pro travelers will look at you as a basic tourist? Who cares, you will never see any of them again. However, what you will see all the time is your travel photos, so you want to look your best all the time. Put in the effort to feel comfortable and confident, but also don’t neglect your aesthetics. Be unapologetic and you will come home with a bunch of Insta-perfect photos and unforgettable memories.
