The International LGBTQ+ Travel Association (IGLTA) is proud to announce The LGBTQ Community Center of the Desert as the recipient of the 2025 Pathfinder Award. This recognition honors The Center’s exceptional work supporting trans and gender diverse people and their families through safe, affirming spaces and essential services. The official presentation will take place on 24 October at IGLTA's Global Convention in Palm Springs, California.
The Center provides critical services and resources for trans and gender diverse people, including support groups for parents and caregivers, educational programming, social connection, and guidance for families of transgender and gender diverse youth. These programs help address feelings of isolation and promote overall well-being, and are open to residents and visitors to the Coachella Valley alike.
“The Pathfinder Award celebrates organizations that set the standard for inclusivity and support in the LGBTQ+ community,” said John Tanzella (he/him), IGLTA President/CEO. “The LGBTQ Community Center of the Desert’s Trans* and Gender Expansive Programming is creating tangible change, offering safe spaces and essential resources that empower communities and families. We were very intentional in celebrating an exceptional trans and gender diverse program this year. As access to such programs is increasingly under threat, this work matters more than ever.”
“The Center is truly honored to receive the 2025 Pathfinder Award in recognition of our trans and gender expansive programming,” said The Center CEO Mike Thompson (he/him). “This award affirms both the commitment of our staff and the essential role of affirming spaces for trans and gender diverse people and their families. Just as travel builds connections across the broader LGBTQ+ community, our programs strengthen the bonds within our local community, making this recognition especially significant.”
The Pathfinder Award — part of the annual IGLTA Honors — recognizes individuals or organizations that have made a significant positive impact in their destination while demonstrating exceptional warmth, hospitality, and inclusivity to the LGBTQ+ community.
