Kimpton Hotel Monaco DC Debuts Pride-Themed ‘Free To Fly’ Suite

Kimpton Hotel Monaco

To celebrate love and inclusivity during WorldPride’s 50th Anniversary celebrations in Washington DC and National Pride Month, the award-winning Kimpton Hotel Monaco Washington DC will debut a rainbow butterfly-themed Free To Fly Suite on May 1, 2025. The eclectic limited-edition suite will be bookable through October 11, 2025 to coincide with National Coming Out Day.

Designed to represent love, transformation and inclusivity by Washington DC-based Designer and Founder of Picnic & Peonies, Michelle Ison, the whimsical suite is thoughtfully-decorated with a rainbow wall mural comprised of 300 hand made silk butterflies, a colorful 6-ft spiral flower-butterfly installation, playful fabric patterns mixed with bold colors, and subtle pop culture nods – a Victorian statue sits on a bedside table with a lightning bolt painted across the eye to channel the unapologetic self-expression of queer icon, David Bowie, the floral installation is peppered with green carnations made famous by Oscar Wilde as a quiet symbol of gay identity, and nestled on the bed’s tray table is a vintage copy of The Wizard of Oz, referencing the “Friend of Dorothy” folklore phrase and the film’s connection to LGBTQ+ culture.

“The Free to Fly Suite was designed to celebrate love, freedom, and acceptance. At the heart of the room is a gradient butterfly mural, symbolizing transformation, movement, and the beauty of becoming your authentic self,” says Michelle Ison, Designer and Founder of Picnic & Peonies. “Alongside the mural, we incorporated a playful mix of colors and patterns that reflect the vibrant spirit of the LGBTQ+ community. These design choices aren’t just aesthetic—they evoke energy, joy, and the dynamic individuality that the space is meant to honor.”

As a member of the Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants portfolio, a leading boutique hotel chain known for its long-standing commitment to the LGBTQ+ community, the debut of the Free To Fly Suite just ahead of WorldPride’s 50th Anniversary celebrations, May 17 – June 8, 2025, and June’s National Pride Month was an opportunity to embrace the milestone events taking place right outside the hotel’s doorstep. To encourage guests to participate in the District’s events and visit historical sites connected to Pride culture, Kimpton Monaco DC partnered with Bird, a global electric bikeshare company dedicated to providing inclusive accessible transportation. Through this partnership, a rainbow bedazzled Spin scooter is stationed in the Free To Fly Suite accompanied by a daily complimentary single ride promo code and curated map of historic Pride sites. Bird also added Spin scooter deployment zones on-property for guests to easily access the scooters. Also guests who book the Free To Fly Suite are welcomed with complimentary beverages and snacks to kick-off the good vibes – two SuperGay Spirits Canned Cocktails and sweets from the local LGBTQ+ owned shop, The Capital Candy Jar.

“Through the creation of the Free To Fly Suite and partnership with brands supporting Pride, we hope to create an immersive guest journey that celebrates our core values and further supports and inspires our neighborhood’s contributions to the LGBTQ+ community,” said Kelsey Jones, Director of Sales and Marketing for Hotel Monaco DC and Kimpton George.

Kimpton Monaco DC and on-site restaurant, Dirty Habit, will be waiving Pride flags throughout the entire month of June with a bevy of colorful guest touchpoints and programming in addition to the Free To Fly Suite:
