LGBTQ Travelers Find Peace & Tranquility in the Pocono Mountains

A roughly two-hour drive away from New York City and Philadelphia, the Pocono Mountains region of Pennsylvania encompasses 2,400 square miles of scenic natural beauty. Visitors can enjoy outdoor adventures galore plus renowned resorts, delicious local restaurants, historic small towns, and exciting festivals and events.

Why not soak in the sunshine in the Poconos this summer? Get a bird’s-eye view as you fly through the sky on a zip line, take a horseback ride, or brave the rapids during a whitewater rafting trip. Find adrenaline-filled adventures like paintball, ATV and UTV rides, and skydiving or take things at a more relaxed pace with a waterfall hike or fishing trip: there are so many ways to explore in the fresh mountain air.

The rolling hills, peaceful forests, and serene lakes and rivers in the Poconos form the perfect backdrop for cabins and campgrounds like Camp Out Mt. Nebo, a LGBT+ adult camping resort located just outside Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. The range of places to stay in the area also includes cozy bed and breakfasts and iconic lodgings like Cove Haven Resort, home of the original heart-shaped tub. Brand new to the Poconos, The Swiftwater will be opening this summer with a focus on high-touch hospitality in a refined and elegant atmosphere.

The popular hibachi restaurant desaki is located a stone’s-throw away from The Swiftwater, and it’s just one of many one-of-a-kind eateries in the Poconos. Sample the freshest farm-to-table cuisine at spots like Pocono Organics Cafe, Cocoon Coffeehouse & Bakery, or French Manor Inn and Spa. The Pocono Beverage Trail features handcrafted wine, beer, and spirits, with a free digital passport allowing guests to check in at different local wineries, breweries, and distilleries to unlock discounts and earn rewards.

The Pocono Mountains also has a packed summer events calendar! Happening in June, the Pocono Pride Festival in downtown Stroudsburg on Sunday, June 2 will bring live entertainment, food and craft vendors, local drag kings and queens and more to Courthouse Square. The Cooperage Project in the heart of Honesdale is hosting a series of June events including the "All Pride, No Prejudice” Picnic on Saturday, June 8, the 3rd Annual Pride Karaoke on Friday, June 14 and Drag Bingo featuring Belle Pepper and friends on Saturday, June 29.
