Moxy Hotel NYC Earns Official Safe Space Certification for LGBTQ Travelers

In 2022, The Moxy in New York City's Chelsea neighborhood debuted an official partnership with the city’s iconic Stonewall Inn and its nonprofit Stonewall Inn Gives Back Initiative (SIGBI), where they became the first-ever hotel designated with an official Safe Space certification by the local LGBTQ+ organization.

With this distinction, the hotel, year over year, is recognized as an organization that is safe and welcoming for the LGBTQ+ community, having undergone specialized training with SIGBI to ensure that the property is equipped to offer the hotel as a certified Safe Space, providing an uplifting environment for LGBTQ+ people, where the community can celebrate, educate, thrive, work, shop, relax, and live freely.

Lauren Levin, Chief Marketing Officer for Lightstone (the hotel’s developer – who is also behind Moxy Times Square, Chelsea, East Village, Lower East Side and Williamsburg) has been a tremendous champion of this initiative for Moxy Chelsea. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community herself, it’s near and dear to her heart and something she is extremely proud of and passionate about.

Moxy Chelsea’s efforts as champions of the LGBTQ+ movement and community are further exemplified by the hotels’ spirited programming and accommodations. In addition to an exciting lineup of inclusive and accessible events activated and curated each year for PRIDE, the property and their dedicated events team work to create a rotating roster of inclusionary programming for hotel guests and visitors alike designed to highlight, amplify, and support members of the LGBTQ+ community all year; a few examples are listed below:

  • Drag Bingo with Sparkle Monster

  • Fitness classes in partnership with local female-led companies

  • Drag Makeup Workshops and glitter bars

  • Cocktail workshops with Good Time Mixology

  • After-Parade Pride Party

  • Panel discussions with SIGBI on various topics such as a traveling as a member of the LGTBQ+ community, hosted by founder of Hotels Above Par, Brandon Berkson
