Nature’s Trifecta in Grand Junction, Colorado

Embraced by the stunning landscapes that define Colorado's allure, Grand Junction is the only place where you can see an extraordinary trio of distinct geological marvels known as Nature's Trifecta. This combination of three magnificent landscapes is unlike any other scenic wonders on Earth. It includes the Colorado National Monument, often referred to as a mini Grand Canyon; the Grand Mesa, the world's largest flat-top mountain bursting with over 300 alpine lakes; and Rattlesnake Arches, the second-most concentration of natural arches in the world.

The Colorado National Monument, a mere 10-minute drive from Downtown Grand Junction, is a jewel within the National Park System (NPS). Forty-three miles of hiking trails and panoramic overlooks, offering solitude amid breathtaking vistas. Venture to the Upper Ute Canyon View, sidestep left towards the "mummy" rock formation, and let out an exuberant "cowabunga" for an unexpected response. It will blow your mind! This NPS site earns a spot on your list with 25 diverse hiking trails rated easy to extreme, camping, and a 23-mile scenic byway perfect for hiking from your car.

Just a short 45-minute drive away, the Grand Mesa stands tall as the world's largest flat-top mountain, blanked with lush forests surrounded by 300 alpine lakes. Each season offers a variety of outdoor recreation activities. Wander amid wildflowers, rushing creeks, and cascading waterfalls in the spring. Race downhill on a mountain bike at Powderhorn Mountain Resort in the summer. Explore lush golden aspen forests and fish during the autumn season. When winter arrives, the Grand Mesa transforms into a winter playground, offering all the Colorado snow sports you expect including skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, and ice fishing.

Completing this trio of unique landscapes is Colorado’s arches. Rattlesnake Arches, nestled within the McInnis National Conservation Area, boasts 35 natural arches clustered within one mile of each other. The arches are accessible through the Pollock Bench trail or shorter routes via the Upper or Lower Black Ridge Road from Glade Park (recommended). Black Ridge Road requires a 4-wheel drive vehicle and is open only part of the year. An overnight stay sleeping under the galaxy makes this adventure even more epic - you can reserve a campsite at Recreation.gov within McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area.

Check out the Official Grand Junction Visitor Guide to learn why the city continues to be recognized as the preferred Colorado destination and named to the New York Times prestigious list of “52 Places to Go.” Experience Nature's Trifecta and unlock the wonders of this extraordinary Colorado destination.
