One-of-a-Kind Experiences in Greater Fort Lauderdale

Greater Fort Lauderdale is renowned as Florida’s LGBT+ capital for many reasons, from Sebastian Street Beach (named “Hottest U.S. Gay Beach” by Out Traveler) to its famous gayborhood Wilton Manors. Here are a few other unique offerings worth exploring on your next trip.

The Grand Resort and Spa

This award-winning, all-male resort has its own full-service day spa and is within walking distance to Sebastian Street Beach and a short Uber ride away from Wilton Manors’ exciting nightlife. But what really sets it apart is its clothing optional courtyard, where guests can relax in the large jacuzzi. The complimentary poolside happy hours are also a popular spot. Let’s just say it’s a great place to get out of your shell – not to mention indulge in a little pampering at the spa. The resort has won countless awards, from being named a “Top 10 Resort” by The Travel Channel to winning the Out Traveler award for “Best Small Hotel or Resort.” One of the resort’s most fun claims to fame is its ongoing sponsorship of the Emmy award-winning show “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” They’ve treated the show’s contestants to prizes such as a week-long stay in the Grand Penthouse, which has its own 800-square-foot terrace, boasting ocean views, Jacuzzi and outdoor shower. The winners also enjoyed spa treatments, of course!

The Tallest Dive Tower in the Western Hemisphere

The historic Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Center and International Swimming Hall of Fame complex is undergoing a $47 million renovation and expansion that includes five swimming pools and a major highlight: an amazing 27-meter dive tower with springboards and nine platform levels. There are 162 stairs to the top. When the revitalized complex reopens in late 2022, you can take a “Top of the Tower Tour.” Although you won’t be able to actually take a dive, you can revel in the spectacular view over Fort Lauderdale’s famous beach and the Intracoastal Waterway.

Funky Buddha Brewery

Funky Buddha Brewery invites you to “let your funk flag fly” with a visit to their brewery, home to one of the largest tap rooms in Florida. Try more than 25 beers on tap, from the award-winning Maple Bacon Coffee Porter to No Crusts, a peanut butter and jelly brown ale. They also offer a lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch menu and tours on select days where you can learn about their unique history and unconventional brewing techniques (while enjoying tasty samples along the way, of course!) that have made them the largest brewery in South Florida.
