Hotels are plentiful in Chicago, but if you are looking for an art deco masterpiece, look no further than the Pendry hotel in downtown Chicago. The property, situated at the corner of Michigan Avenue and East Wacker Place is conveniently located to Millennium Park as well as a quick stroll to popular Magnificent Mile shopping.
From the moment you enter the Pendry, you immediately become aware of its history, which is coupled with a touch of modern elegance. A welcoming reception area greets guests as soon as they enter the property. To the right is Bar Pendry, a wonderful place to relax with friends while enjoying a signature cocktail such as a Smoking Jacket, made with bourbon, Campari, and lapsang souchong cocoa. If you’re hungry for a snack, try the Tuna Tartare, served with avocado, radish, jalapeño ponzu, and furikake rice crisp.
The rooms at the Pendry are just as magnificent as the lobby. My corner room was extremely spacious with more than enough room for a king-size bed complete with a plush duvet and luxury linens as well as a beautiful bathroom with walk-in shower. In addition, the room comes with two distinct seating areas perfect for enjoying a morning cup of coffee.
In the basement of the Pendry is the hotel’s state-of-the-art fitness center, which is one of the nicer ones I’ve seen in recent memory. The center features an array of exercise equipment ranging from treadmills and Peloton bicycles to a multi-gym and free weights. I try to squeeze in a workout whenever I travel, so this was a welcomed amenity.
If you are hungry after your workout, head to the Pendry’s signature restaurant, Venteux, which means “windy” in French. The brasserie, oyster & champagne bar is located next to the billiard parlor and offers a wide variety of French classics including Escargot, Tuna Niçoise and Ratatouille Pasta.
The Pendry Chicago is also situated a short walk from multiple public transportation options, so even if you plan on enjoying an evening in Boystown, the hotel is a great choice.
