Whidbey and Camano Islands: Your 2026 LGBTQ Holiday Getaway Guide

Slow Down for the Holidays: Just north of Seattle, Whidbey and Camano Islands offer a refreshing alternative to the holiday hustle. Think cozy waterfront villages, locally owned restaurants, beautiful coastal scenery and community traditions that make visitors feel like locals. The season kicks off with Lighting of Langley (November 28), featuring carolers, Santa, hot cocoa and a festive tree lighting. On December 5, Greening of Coupeville brings a traditional Christmas parade, twinkling lights and late-night shopping to the historic waterfront, while Oak Harbor's Santa Parade and Tree Lighting celebrates the season downtown. Visitors can also enjoy Light Up Your Holiday at Admiralty Head Lighthouse (November 28), with live music, Santa and spectacular views of Puget Sound.
Shop Small, Gift Local: Holiday shopping becomes part of the getaway when visitors trade crowded malls for independent boutiques, artist studios and festive markets. Greenbank Farm Holiday Markets (November 27–29 and December 5–6 and 12–13) feature handcrafted gifts from local artisans in a historic barn, while Camano Island's Kristoferson Farm Holiday Market in the Barn (November 28) offers locally made goods, farm products, wreaths and a festive atmosphere. Visitors can even make their own holiday decorations during Kristoferson Farm's Wreathmaking Workshops (December 5–6). Additional opportunities to shop local include the Winter Festival at Arrowhead Ranch (December 5), Langley's First Saturday Art Walk (December 5) and Oak Harbor's Green Ticket Cash Giveaway (November 1–December 18), which rewards shoppers for supporting participating downtown businesses.
A Cozy Winter Getaway: Beyond the holiday festivities, the islands invite visitors to slow down and reconnect with nature. Explore Whidbey's forests on a guided Wild Mushroom Tour (select Saturdays through December 19), or experience the quieter side of the season during Winter Walks at Meerkerk Gardens (November 17, December 20, January 1 and February 14), featuring a guided stroll through beautiful gardens and woodland. Pair these experiences with a waterfront stay, a leisurely meal at a locally owned restaurant and an afternoon browsing galleries and boutiques for a memorable holiday escape.
