Why Cheyenne Is a Must-Visit Spring Destination for Festivals & Western Fun

Cheyenne Wyoming LGBTQ

Spring in Cheyenne brings longer days, crisp high plains air, and a season built for getting out and into it. The season brings a mix of local flavor, live music, and Western tradition—offering a refreshing way to experience the New Old West.

For something delightfully unexpected, head just outside the city in May for the Corgi Derby at Pine Bluffs Distilling. Equal parts quirky and heartwarming, dozens of short-legged racers dash for glory while spectators cheer them on. It’s more than a race—it’s an afternoon of craft spirits, community, and pure joy, with outfits just as fabulous as the Kentucky Derby.

Starting the Friday after Memorial Day and running through August, Fridays on the Plaza transforms downtown into an open-air concert scene. Music fills Depot Plaza each week as hundreds—sometimes thousands—gather for Wyoming’s largest free outdoor music series. With performers like The Wallflowers, Hoobastank, Gym Class Heroes, and Boys Like Girls alongside regional talent, it’s where live music, dancing, and connection take center stage—and where everyone feels like a local.

In mid-June, the Wyoming Brewers Festival brings two days of craft beer, live music, and local flavor, featuring more than 75 brews from regional and national makers. That same sense of community carries into the Cheyenne Celtic Festival, also held in June, with Highland games, traditional dance, clan displays, and Scotch tastings. Rounding out the season, the Hell on Wheels Rodeo delivers classic Western action and summer performances that showcase Cheyenne’s deep-rooted cowboy culture. Together, these experiences highlight a city that’s still moving—making spring in Cheyenne not just a visit, but something you step into.
