Costa Rica’s Celebrated Beach Town is Taking Great Leaps Forward

Dedicated to creating a way of life that is healthy, sustainable, fulfilling, and fun, Las Catalinas is undergoing exciting expansion and innovation, guaranteeing this to be a truly remarkable year for this new seaside town and Costa Rican history.

Many of the additions surround the new El Prado neighborhood, which will spread over 60 acres on the other side of the town's main public road, which will soon be revamped as a traditional Main Street with inviting shops, cafes, trees and sidewalks. El Prado’s Parque Central (Central Park) will offer playing fields, four tennis courts, a neighborhood pool and elegant walking paths to further heighten community recreation, and many of the homes here and surrounding walkways will open up directly onto the trail circuit, allowing mountain bikers to have the luxury of a true bike-in/bike-out experience. El Prado will introduce a new network of intricate and beautiful streets, plazas and passages and will provide a great variety of living options including flats and townhouses, houses along stair streets, and a number of lots for larger houses.

The Beach Club is also undergoing a complete refurbishment by D’Aqui Design and will re-emerge this July as a sexy chic watering hole with perfectly stylish lines and natural tones featuring striking wood accents and creative lighting to epitomize relaxed beach glamour.

Meanwhile, Pots & Bowls, the wildly popular restaurant that first opened as a food truck in the height of the pandemic now operates as an actual restaurant and has a new sister restaurant next door called Pascual offering farm-to-table tapas and a wide selection of wines. The coming months will also see the opening of Papagayo Taphouse by Papagayo Brewing Co and Coquelicot, a charming European style food cart specializing in ice cream and waffles.

Beach Town Travel is also excited to have partnered with Homes & Villas by Marriott International, which will now feature top listings from the Las Catalinas Collection, searchable by the destination of “Las Catalinas, Guanacaste, Costa Rica." Marriott Bonvoy members can now earn and redeem points by booking Las Catalinas Collection homes directly on Homes & Villas by Marriott International. These additions provide guests, including the more than 140 million members of Marriott International’s award-winning travel program even more great options to choose from when booking travel.

“Stair streets have much historic precedent in the world and are not often architected nor built in the modern world where cars have become the tail that wags the dog in terms of infrastructure and how humans get from point A to point B,” says Las Catalinas Director of Sales & Marketing Renae Johnson. “In a largely pedestrian town with intense sloping topography, we will utilize stair streets to encourage walkability, sociability and beauty.” The new stair street residences will flank either side of the most topographically challenging section of town. They will be highly visible and will offer panoramic ocean views from both the public areas surrounding the residences and from within each private home.
