Sail aboard a historic schooner

Visitors can experience Penn Cove from the water aboard SUVA, a historic wooden pilot house schooner built in 1925. Departing from the picturesque Coupeville Wharf on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Oct. 17, the gentle sailing excursion offers views of Penn Cove, Mount Baker and the Cascade Range.

Celebrate the flavors of fall

At Arrowhead Ranch on Camano Island, guests can bring a bushel of apples and transform them into fresh cider during a hands-on pressing session. Local food also takes center stage during the Whidbey Island Grown Cooperative’s Holiday Gift Hub, running Oct. 30 through Dec. 20. The cooperative’s virtual farmers market represents more than 70 farms and producers, offering curated gifts and locally made products that can be purchased individually or combined into customized baskets. Experience Hispanic and Latin culture

Downtown Oak Harbor will fill with music, dancing and colorful traditions during the Día de Fiesta Hispanic Heritage Festival, taking place Oct. 2–3.

The family-friendly celebration of Hispanic and Latin culture will feature live music, mariachi performances, dancing, piñatas and a variety of food. Raise a glass at Greenbank Farm

Greenbank Farm will transform its historic barn into a Bavarian beer hall Oct. 3 when Saratoga Orchestra presents its annual Oktoberfest celebration.

The 21-and-older event will feature traditional German music, locally produced beer and cider, imported Oktoberfest beer, pretzels, Bavarian pizza and brats and hot dogs from Coupe’s Last Stand Bratwagon. Pick the perfect pumpkin

Scenic Isle Farm will welcome families to its pumpkin patch every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through Oct. 31. Visitors can ride a trolley to the patch and enjoy seasonal activities designed for a range of ages.

Brave the Frightville spirits

The Roller Barn’s Haunted House will deliver a more intense Halloween experience from Oct. 9 through Nov. 1. Visitors will encounter immersive sets, eerie sounds, restless spirits and unexpected scares around every corner.

Discover the magic of Coupeville

Fans of the cult-classic film “Practical Magic” can visit the waterfront town that served as a filming location for the movie starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman.

During Practically Magic Halloweekend, Coupeville will celebrate its connection to the film with walking tours, movie screenings and themed festivities. Practical Magic Walking Tours continue through Oct. 24, while screenings will be held Oct. 19–24 at Coupeville’s Recreation Hall.

A downtown scavenger hunt will run Oct. 22–25. On Oct. 24, visitors can enjoy the Ales and Apothecary Brew Garden, followed by a torchlight parade and street dance along Front Street. Search the forest for wild mushrooms

Travelers can explore Whidbey Island’s forests while learning about local fungi during guided Whidbey Wild Mushroom Tours on select Saturdays through Dec. 19.

A mushroom expert will introduce participants to the species found across the island and share insight into the region’s forest ecosystem. Honor veterans in Oak Harbor

Oak Harbor will honor current and former members of the armed forces during its annual Veterans Day Parade on Nov. 11.

Taste the islands’ best chili and chowder

The Camano Island Chili Chowder Cookoff returns Nov. 14 for its 29th year. The annual culinary competition brings together professional and amateur cooks, each serving a distinctive take on chili or chowder.

Shop for locally made holiday gifts

The Greenbank Farm Holiday Market will return for multiple weekends, including Nov. 27–28, Dec. 5–6 and Dec. 11–12. The farm’s historic barn will become a festive marketplace filled with handcrafted merchandise from regional artists and makers.

Kristoferson Farm on Camano Island will offer additional seasonal activities beginning Nov. 28. The fifth-generation family farm, also home to Canopy Tours Northwest, will host a Holiday Market in the Barn featuring local arts, crafts and handmade wreaths. Guests can also enjoy hot cider, cookies and wine tastings.

On Dec. 5–6, the farm will present two-hour wreath-making workshops using fresh greenery grown on the property. Participants will create their own holiday decorations while experiencing the peaceful setting of the historic farm.

Watch the islands light up

Langley will officially welcome the holiday season with the annual Lighting of Langley on Nov. 28. Held from 4 to 7 p.m. at Langley Park, the community celebration will feature a tree-lighting ceremony, carolers, hot cocoa, candy canes and opportunities to take photos with Santa. Also on Nov. 28, Admiralty Head Lighthouse and Fort Casey State Park will host Light Up Your Holiday from 4 to 6 p.m. The outdoor celebration will include Christmas carolers, children’s games and campfires for roasting marshmallows and chestnuts.
