Fantasy Fest 2026 Brings Musical Icons and Broadway Legends to Key West
Every October, Key West becomes a sun-soaked stage where creativity runs wild, costumes become works of art and everyone is invited to step into the spotlight. This year, Fantasy Fest will transform the island into a living celebration of sound and spectacle from Oct. 16–25.
The theme for Fantasy Fest 2026 is “Musical Icons and Iconic Musicals,” giving revelers endless inspiration for their costumes. Visitors can channel everyone from pop superstars and rock legends to beloved Broadway characters—or create an entirely original persona worthy of center stage.
With more than 100 opportunities to parade, pose, dance and celebrate, the 10-day festival promises a packed schedule of elaborate costumes, live entertainment, themed parties and signature Key West traditions.
“Fantasy Fest is a bucket-list experience, an invitation to immerse in an electrifying world of creativity, music, costumes and revelry,” said Fantasy Fest Director Nadene Grossman Orr. “Whether you arrive as a Broadway legend, rock icon, pop superstar or icon of your own creation, this is your invitation to step into the spotlight and let your imagination take flight.”
A Royal Beginning
The celebration begins Friday, Oct. 16, with the Royal Coronation at the Coffee Butler Amphitheater. The dazzling stage production doubles as a fundraiser for the Florida Keys SPCA, featuring candidates for Fantasy Fest King and Queen alongside local entertainers. The evening culminates with the crowning of the festival’s 2026 Royal Court.
The Bahama Village Goombay Festival will fill Key West’s historic Bahama Village neighborhood with music, pageantry, food, arts and crafts on Oct. 16 and 17. The family-friendly cultural celebration continues from day into night, bringing the sights, sounds and flavors of the Caribbean to the island.
Several free events will add even more excitement to the opening days. Opal Key Resort & Marina will present “Legends Never Die: Día de los Muertos Celebration of Musical Icons,” a costume party inviting guests to honor and creatively embody musical stars who are no longer with us.
Sunset Pier will travel back to the glory days of classic rock with two performances by That Arena Rock Show, while the iconic Green Parrot Bar will host a 1960s-themed dance party featuring Key West’s own Beatles tribute band.
Tutus, Neon Lights and Costumed Pets
As the festival continues, Fantasy Fest’s playful spirit takes over the island’s nightlife. Tutu Tuesday will transform the Caroline Street district into a multi-venue dance party complete with DJs, lights and lasers. As the name makes clear, tutus are required.
Wednesday brings glowing revelry to Rick’s Upstairs with LUV2GLOW, an immersive black-light party featuring fluorescent décor, pulsating house music and illuminated performers.
Four-legged festivalgoers will also receive their moment in the spotlight during the Pet Masquerade at the Coffee Butler Amphitheater. Equal parts enchanting and hilarious, the beloved competition showcases costumed pets and their humans in a delightfully over-the-top display.
Headdresses and “Moulin Rouge”
Thursday’s schedule offers several ways to embrace the festival’s theatrical side. The Southernmost Scavenger Hunt will present its seventh annual Fantasy Fest Bar Crawl, while Adam & Eve hosts a “Moulin Rouge” Sing-Along Movie Night.
One of the festival’s longest-running traditions, the 42nd annual Key West Headdress Ball, will showcase extravagant creations that defy gravity and conventional fashion. The event pairs its towering, imaginative headpieces with high-energy performances by some of Key West’s top entertainers.
A Mile of Costumes and Celebration
On the final Friday, Paparazzi Row will provide the perfect setting for costumed posing and photos before the celebration flows into the Captain Morgan Masquerade March. Known as the locals’ parade, the popular procession carries elaborately dressed revelers through the streets of Old Town.
The Fantasy Fest Street Fair and Costume Promenade will take over Duval Street on Friday and Saturday. The mile-long celebration will feature food, drinks, arts, crafts and an ever-changing parade of imaginative costumes.
The festival reaches its grand finale Saturday with the Deep Eddy Vodka Fantasy Fest Parade. Sensational floats, elaborately costumed marching groups and inventive kinetic contraptions will move through Key West, bringing “Musical Icons and Iconic Musicals” to life in spectacular fashion.
Throughout the 10-day celebration, visitors will find themed parties, costume competitions, live entertainment and the anything-goes creative energy that has made Fantasy Fest one of Key West’s most anticipated annual events.
