Malta is one of Europe’s most LGBTQ+ inclusive destinations, holding the #1 spot on the Rainbow Index for the past 10 years. It is also known for being a sun-soaked archipelago with 8,000 years of history, culinary delights including 6 Michelin star restaurants, great beaches and nightlife.
North American Representative of Malta Tourism Authority, Michelle Buttigieg, noted “the Maltese are warm, welcoming, people. Pride in Malta is a beautiful way to embrace identity, community, and human rights”
Malta Tourism Authority, recipient of the 2024 LGBTQ+ Destination Award presented at the International Tourism Exchange Berlin, plays an active role in promoting a safe environment for all.
Michelle further emphasized how “the inclusive environment that has put Malta at the forefront of LGBTQ+ travel tourism extends beyond pride celebrations. Cultivating such a strong culture of inclusivity comes from ongoing laws and policy that prioritize creating and protecting a safe travel destination for all.”
