Menizei Introduces “Forest Cocooning,” a Quiet-Luxury Retreat Near Olympic National Park

Menizei Olympic National Park Pride Journeys LGBTQ Travel

Menizei, a design-forward, adults-only forest retreat on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula, introduces a new category of outdoor hospitality called forest cocooning: a restorative, quiet-luxury stay designed for couples seeking a remote sanctuary in nature without sacrificing comfort, privacy, or design.

Located 15 minutes north of Olympic National Park, ensconced in a coastal rainforest and overlooking the Salish Sea, Menizei reimagines camping as an intentional experience centered on restoration, biophilic grounding and reconnection. Each private basecamp features a signature blackout tent and architectural bathhouse with a sauna custom-built for two, enabling guests to unplug from the urban grind while remaining immersed in their own slice of a coastal bluff.

“You’ll never hear me call Menizei a glamping destination,” said founder Janice Wilson. “Camping isn’t about sleeping in a tent. It’s about savoring nature. And that’s hard to do when you’re surrounded by rows of white canvas tents that feel more like a Civil War reenactment.”

Unlike traditional glamping, Menizei is intentionally adults-only and couples-focused, with limited capacity to preserve quiet and seclusion. There are no televisions and limited cell reception by design, encouraging guests to breathe, reconnect, and experience the forest on its own terms.

“At Menizei,” continues Wilson, “we practice biophilic design that draws from the coastal forest and ocean—so couples can truly disconnect, then reconnect. When guests wake up here, they don’t see (or hear) their neighbors. They see each other.”

Menizei’s experience is built around rituals of rest, presence, and indulgence. Each stay centers on deep sleep and sensory calm, with blackout sleeping tents, private cedar saunas, and the natural white noise of the Salish Sea. Couples can elevate their evenings with curated campfire offerings, including a Black Label hot dog finished with flown-in caviar, or request a private couples massage overlooking the Salish Sea. The result is a quietly decadent retreat designed for travelers who value privacy, restraint, and romance as the highest expression of luxury.

Menizei is located in Joyce, Washington, approximately a 30-minute drive from Port Angeles and within easy reach of Olympic National Park’s beaches, rainforests, and hiking trails. The retreat operates seasonally, with reservations available directly through its website. For more information or to book, visit www.menizei.com.
