Santa Marta Marriott Resort Playa Dormida and Colombian fashion house Mario Hernández are pleased to present the Butterfly Route, an exclusive experience connecting Santa Marta’s natural beauty, gastronomy, personalized services, and the best of its national design.
This one-of-a-kind collaboration between the hotel and the luxury brand pays tribute to the more than 30 species of butterflies endemic to the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, and is specifically inspired by the Rhodopteron Morpho or “pearly blue butterfly,” which researchers say can only be found in this corner of the planet.
The Butterfly Route will allow guests to enjoy key destination highlights and a collection of Mario Hernández pieces, created exclusively for the occasion. They will also be able to enjoy Ron Viejo de Caldas cocktails and a special dining menu at the helm of the hotel’s Executive Chef Alirio Rodríguez.
"This will be a unique opportunity in a destination that has everything to offer to make travelers fall in love. We are pleased to form this alliance with prestigious brands such as Mario Hernández and Ron Viejo de Caldas, to offer our guests an unforgettable stay," said Mario Mata, Director of Marketing and Sales at the Santa Marta Marriott Resort Playa Dormida.
"It is an honor for the Mario Hernández family to collaborate with Santa Marta Marriott Resort Playa Dormida on this Butterfly Route experience; it took several years to reach this moment. Our intention is to positively impact travelers in Colombia by offering this experience that defines our culture. This alliance between the hotel, Ron Viejo de Caldas, and Mario Hernández is a collective effort to build a country and bet on creativity,” said Mario Hernández.
Guests who participate in the Butterfly Route will stay in a butterfly-themed room decorated by Mario Hernández. The room will feature butterflies on the walls, bedding, mirrors, and balcony, and a blue morpho exhibition with a QR code that will lead to information about the species, surprise gifts, and additional amenities.
Guests will also be able to view the metamorphosis of this species firsthand, as a box featuring a butterfly pupa with a sphere of natural fibers will await them in their room. The box will contain information about the soon-to-be-born butterfly, the legend of its release, and care instructions.
The goal of this initiative is to raise awareness about the protection of the species in the area. Guests must allow the butterfly to exit their room if it is born during their stay and will be asked to leave the pupa in the Duzano (a wooded area next to the hotel) if it is not.
Beyond the room, participants will receive reserved butterfly-themed spaces on the beach, pool, spa, and restaurant. Guests will find an exclusive set of tableware designed by Mario Hernández during their dining experiences.
Additional services included within the Butterfly Route are a treatment at the hotel's Seishua Spa, access to the jacuzzi at sunset, and a cocktail class with a designated Ron Viejo de Caldas expert. Mario Hernández handbags will be available for purchase in the lobby.
The Butterfly Route will be available until to March 2023 and is currently available as Santa Marta’s first Marriott Bonvoy Moment. Marriott Bonvoy Moments is the exclusive experience platform of Marriott Bonvoy, Marriott International's award-winning travel program, where members can redeem their points for either fixed-price experiences or use them to bid on experiences through auctions.
