Indianapolis is home to several seasonal attractions, fun festivities and bright lights this holiday season. Located within a day’s drive to more than half of the nation’s population, Indy is an easy and centrally located destination that welcomes all. Recently, Airbnb released its 2024 trends report and Indy topped the list as a trending global destination for next year. Trust us when we say… don’t miss out on a visit to Indy!
What’s New: As a city of tradition, Indy added a new holiday attraction to its roaster. For the first time, visitors can ice skate in the heart of the Circle City at the brand-new Bicentennial Unity Plaza located just outside Gainbridge Fieldhouse, which is home to the Indiana Pacers. For the winter season, the Plaza transformed into a wonderland featuring an ice-skating rink where visitors can enjoy 90-minute staking sessions until mid-January. On the north side of the city, RH Indianapolis opened the gates to the 42,000-square-foot, 151-acre estate of the late philanthropist, Christel DeHaan. No matter what the season is, the gallery and on-site restaurant are open for visitors to enjoy a beverage while touring the showrooms. Come spring, the outdoor terrace, overlooking the 35-acre private lake and gardens, will provide an outdoor dining experience paired perfectly with a peaceful view.
Holiday Favorites: In the Mass Ave. Cultural District, Indy’s first Christmas Market is back at the Athenaeum. Only in its second season, the Athenaeum Christkindlmarkt was ranked in the top 10 of Yelp’s best holiday markets this year. Home to 12 decorated vendor huts, the market is a perfect place to buy a local gift for a loved one while enjoying German food and libations. A market for all, attendees can enjoy holiday celebrations from around the globe including Hanukkah (Saturday, Dec. 9), Las Posadas (Saturday, Dec. 16) and Kwanzaa (Sunday, Dec. 17). The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, which serves as the largest children’s museum in the world, launched a new holiday event called WinterFaire. This magical indoor world includes fun-filled games, a 40-foot slide and hands-on activities for families to enjoy through mid-February.
Looking beyond the holiday season, Indy has lots to offer as we gear up for a blockbuster year in 2024.
What’s Coming: At the start of the year, Cunningham Restaurant Group will open Commission Row, a three-story restaurant and speakeasy as Indy’s newest and most anticipated downtown restaurant. Located adjacent to Gainbridge Fieldhouse, it will become a hot spot before and after Indiana Pacer games, concerts and more. Come February, Indy will host the 2024 NBA All-Star game with major art installations taking over the city, a massive Cultural Corridor, a Crossover fan fest, concerts and more. Activations will take place throughout the city with major events at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium.
