Albuquerque is a magical destination to visit in the winter. With mild temperatures and plenty of sunshine, visitors can pick between indoor and outdoor activities to enjoy both the sun and the snow.
Kick off the holiday season in the heart of Albuquerque on Dec. 5 at the Old Town Holiday Stroll. This annual event offers late-night shopping at the dozens of small businesses in Old Town along with music and dance performances, hot chocolate and biscochitos (the official state cookie of New Mexico) and more. Continue the seasonal celebrations at the National Hispanic Cultural Center on Dec. 11 at the 2nd Annual Luminito Celebration. Marvel at a giant luminaria (paper bag filled with sand and topped with a votive candle) while enjoying other festive fun. To experience thousands of luminarias lighting up the night sky, head to the Old Town neighborhood on Dec. 24, where a spectacular display of luminarias celebrate the season.

In January, step into a world of secrecy at Spyglass: A Festival of Espionage and Atoms at the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History. This weekend-long festival is a thrilling celebration of Cold War intrigue and atomic innovation with a movie night, guided tours and more. Warm up at the end of the winter at the National Fiery Foods & BBQ Show, Feb. 27-March 1. Sample everything from spicy salsa and barbecue sauces to snacks and desserts that bring the heat.
