A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to stay at The Grand Resort & Spa on Fort Lauderdale Beach, one of many gay guest houses in the area. So, with so many properties to choose from…why The Grand? Well, there are a few things that made it stand out from the competition.
Location…Location…Location: One of the biggest selling points of The Grand is its perfect location to the beach. A short 5-minute walk is all it takes to find yourself basking in the sun along with the throngs of gay men that frequent Fort Lauderdale’s famous beaches.
The Spa: The Grand offers a full-service spa on property where guests can indulge in a variety of treatments including massages, facials, manicures and pedicures or even get a trim, so you look perfect for a night out on the town.
The Penthouse Suite: This room is possibly the ‘grandest’ suite in Fort Lauderdale…see what I did there? The two-bedroom, two-bathroom corner suite includes a fully functioning kitchen, cozy living area as well as a private patio complete with your own hot tub.
Clothing Option: I purposely wrote ‘option’ because that is indeed what it is. The front half of the resort is not clothing optional while the back half is, as to not make any guests feel uncomfortable as they enter the property.
The Free Stuff: Included with your stay is a daily hot breakfast which you can either enjoy in the Club Room or poolside, which was my favorite place to sip my morning coffee. On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings from 5:00–6:00 pm, the resort offers a Sundown Happy Hour featuring complimentary alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. This is a great way to mingle with other guests and make new friends.
The Grand is a wonderful place to stay if you are looking for a boutique-style property in Fort Lauderdale. The only downside to staying on the beach is you will need to take a Lyft or Uber to Wilton Manors, South Florida’s premiere gayborhood. But if you are just looking for a relaxing weekend soaking up the sun, then The Grand is a perfect choice for you!
