This year, Stockholm is celebrating an incredible 79 years since the decriminalization of homosexuality in Sweden (the country has been “queer since 1944”) and also 14 years of fully equal marriage.
2023 is a jubilee year for Sweden for many other reasons: it celebrates 500 years of Vasa reign, the first Vasa king ascended the throne in 1523. It also marks the 50th year on the throne for the current King of Sweden – Carl XVI Gustaf.
It is also the 10th-anniversary celebration for ABBA the Museum, not to mention the 25th anniversary of Stockholm Pride… so I guess you can say that it’s a year of “Vasa Kings and Dancing Queens!”
